Disaster averted as United Nigeria Airline aircraft makes mid-air U-turn after running into turbulence.
A United Nigeria Airlines flight from Port Harcourt to Abuja airport, flight number U50515, made an emergency landing in Port Harcourt yesterday after encountering turbulence near Abuja.
In a statement issued yesterday, Mr Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, United Nigeria Airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, said: “A United Nigeria aircraft number U50515 from PHC to ABV departed PHC with clear and good weather prediction.”
“However, when we approached Abuja, we encountered moderate turbulence, forcing us to return to Port Harcourt due to weather circumstances that were below our operating criteria.

Returning to PHC was a necessary and correct option made by the crew.”
” As a result, the flight or aircraft were never in any danger. Our experienced crew operated with the utmost professionalism, which the passengers praised and complimented profusely.”
They commended United Nigeria for its professionalism and excellent standards. We recognise that passengers react to weather turbulence in a variety of ways, but it would be beneficial to double-check facts before going the social media route.”
”At United Nigeria, we take safety very seriously and as our first concern, and we can guarantee you that our crew takes extreme caution in all situations.”
“We are in the rainy season, so there will be flight disruptions and turbulence, which regular travellers are aware of,” he stated.
