Engineer Joseph Oyeyani Makoju, adviser to former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has been confirmed dead.

Ejes Gist Newspaper reports that Joseph Makoju, who is also a former managing director of Dangote Cement, died on Monday in an Abuja private hospital.

He died at the age of 73 years old.

Meanwhile, the governor of Kogi, Yahaya Bello, expressed his condolences to the late Makoju’s family on Monday.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary Muhammed Onogwu, Bello expressed his condolences.

Makoju, he said, was a respected administrator who had left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.

Joseph Makoju, despite his advanced age, would be sorely missed as an elder statesman whose role in providing notable leadership advice could never be overstated, having served as a special adviser to three Nigerian presidents,” he said.

Bello said the Okene-born astute technocrat had a remarkable track record in the private sector that deserved recognition, and that he brought great honour to his homeland.

The governor expressed his condolences to the elder statesman’s family, friends, and associates.

He prayed to God for the strength to bear the loss of those who were greatly affected by his death.
