10 Killed Jos Prison Break , Many Still at large
Jos Prison Break: Two hundred and fifty-two inmates remain at large after escaping from the Jos Medium Custodial Centre on Sunday.
Nine inmates were killed in the crossfire between security forces and attackers, and one of the attackers who had been trapped inside the facility was also killed.
One member of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Armed Squad was killed, while another was shot in the hand, according to reports.
“One of the gunmen trapped within the Medium Security Custodial Center, Jos after invading the facility has been identified as one of those killed in the gun duel,” said Francis Enobore, a spokesman for the Service.
“Unfortunately, one of the NCoS Armed Squad personnel paid the ultimate price in the encounter, and nine inmates also died,” he added.
“Another member of the Service’s staff was shot in the hand, and six inmates were injured as well.”
“In the meantime, some of the attackers and a total of 262 inmates managed to flee the melee before reinforcements from sister services arrived.
“However, 10 have been apprehended so far, leaving 252 on the loose.”

“The Controller-General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, expressed condolences to the family and friends of the brave officer who paid the ultimate price in the encounter, promising that the death would not be in vain as all perpetrators would be hunted down and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
“At the time of the attack, the Jos Medium Security Custodial Centre had 1,060 inmates, including 560 pre-trial detainees and 500 convicts.
