Johnny Brown, an American singer and actor, has died, according to his family.

The actor, who played building superintendent Nathan Bookman on the CBS sitcom Good Times in the 1970s, died at the age of 84.

His heartbroken family confirmed the tragic news on Friday with a social media post expressing their grief and informing fans that he had passed away on March 2nd.

Sharon Catherine Brown, Johnny’s daughter and a Broadway actress, shared the sad news on Instagram alongside a photo of her TV star father.

“Our family is devastated,” she wrote. Devastated. Devastated. I’m completely heartbroken. I was barely able to take a breath.

“At this time, we respectfully request privacy because we require a moment to process the unthinkable.”

“This is my mother’s husband of sixty-one years, mine and JJ’s father, Elijah and Levi’s Pop Pop, George’s older brother and Pat’s brother in law, and extended family to Chris, Hihat, Damian, and Derell,” she continued.

“It’s just too bad.” It will never be otherwise. It’s a rude awakening. He was snatched right out of our arms.

“It’s not real yet for us.” So there will be more to say in the future, but not right now. Dad was unquestionably the best. We adore him tremendously.”

In the comments section of the post, fans expressed their support and condolences, with one writing: “I am so sorry for your loss. I was completely enamoured with him.”

Johnny Brown  had a long and illustrious career, with his first appearance in 1966 in the film A Man Called Adam.
