The ugly incident occurred at precisely 5:45 p.m. while the journalists were returning from visiting party members in the Badagry Local Government area of Lagos’ Ikoga Junction neighbourhood.
Hakeem Amode, the publicity secretary and chairman of the media, claimed in a release that the attack left several members of Jandor’s entourage hurt.
In addition, he stated that while the injured were being attended to, the vehicles were seriously damaged, one of the news reporters was at a severe condition in an unnamed hospital.
He claimed that the men who attacked the campaign train were brandishing firearms and yelling “APC” while doing so.
You may recall that Amode said, “Our party recently expressed worry on the threat to utilize sponsored thugs to attack the campaign initiatives of our governor candidate, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran-JANDOR.
“We would like to emphasize unequivocally that this will not sway our candidate’s resolve to run for office in 2023 and win the election.
“We hereby call upon the Lagos State Police Commissioner and the Area Commander of Police in the Badagry Division to take all reasonable steps to identify and punish those responsible for the attack in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This will provide our members more assurance that they would be safeguarded throughout the campaign, according to the statement.
We further say, “We will not stand by and watch as those who are hell-bent on causing trouble or planning to sabotage the campaign and elections do so. We will resist all forms of intimidation.”
In order to prevent similar incidents in the future and to give PDP members confidence that they will be protected during this campaign, he then urged the Lagos State Police Commissioner and the Area Commander of Police in the Badagry division to use all available means to identify the attackers and to face disciplinary action.
