The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a proscribed group in Nigeria, has barred the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other political parties from conducting rallies in the southeast.

In a recent statement, IPOB‘s spokesman, who uses the alias Emma Powerful, chastised southeast leaders, claiming that “they only worry about 2023,” not the peace in the region.

“We will not allow the APC and other political parties to hold rallies in our territory when Fulani bandits kidnap and rape our people with impunity, and politicians do nothing about it.” They only care about 2023. “I’ve had enough!” Part of IPOB’s announcement reads:

IPOB‘s directives are expected to have an impact on voter turnout in Nigeria’s general election next year.

In related news, a BBC journalist covering the suspended sit-at-home order in Cemetery Market, Aba, Abia State, was assaulted by some police personnel.

On Wednesday, the incident occurred.

The journalist, who did not want to be recognized, was giving a live update on the BBC Igbo Facebook page when police officers on routine patrol charged at him.

According to the cops, the reporter could be an IPOB spy posing as a journalist. He was set free after the argument.
