During his sermon, the Imam warned Buhari that if he fails to combat bandits, Allah will punish him.
“Go and tell the President that under his government, some group of people are issuing threats to local communities, demanding that they pay some amount of money or face attack,” the Imam said in a viral video.
“And they’d collect the money and announce on the BBC that they (the bandits) would be paid this Friday [to avoid attack].”
“Tell the president that there is a country to which we owe allegiance and a part of that country that we don’t know about, which is ruled by bandits.
“Either the president should return the country to a state where bandits aren’t killing people in the first place — as he did when he took power — or Allah (God) will deal with him.”
Banditry has been on the rise in the country in recent years.
In the northern part of the country, schools and worship centres have been frequent targets of bandits.
Several students and religious leaders have been kidnapped and killed by these bandits, while others have been released after large ransoms have been paid.
