Iniobong Umoren Story
A prospective employer allegedly raped, murdered, and buried a young job seeker and University of Uyo Philosophy graduate, Ini-Ubong Umoren, over the weekend after luring her with the promise of a job interview.
Umoh Uduak, an Ini-Ubong Umoren close friend who also arrived in Lagos state from Uyo to look for work and was scheduled to restart on Monday, May 3rd, shared with TVC an emotional description of how Ini-Ubong Umoren was reported missing after she advertised her job search on Twitter.
Ini called her friend on Thursday to tell her about an interview she had to attend at Airport Road in Uyo, but she didn’t want to go because of the distance and transportation cost. Her friend then sent her 2,000 Naira for the interview, warning her to tell everyone in her immediate vicinity.
Ini maintained in touch during her journey, expressing her dissatisfaction with the distance. Ini then sent a voice message that was unclear, prompting her buddy to contact her, assuming she didn’t have enough airtime. She returned the call and heard Ini screaming before the phone was disconnected. She attempted to phone back multiple times, but no one responded.
Her acquaintance contacted Ini’s sister, who rushed to the police station right away, only to be told that it hadn’t been 24 hours. The next day, Ini’s sister returned to the station, where she was instructed to rent a van and fuel it before the investigation began.
Ini, she claims, put up a job posting on Twitter. She said that a certain Ememobong had removed his comment from beneath Ini’s mentioned post, where the two had discussed a job. Before removing his Twitter and Facebook sites, Ememobong had changed his username.
The details were linked to one Uduak Frank Akpan, according to the investigation.
Ini’s buddy also revealed that a previous victim (Miriam) had contacted her, and that she had been invited to an interview as well, but that her arrival was met with a different scenario. Miriam was allegedly drugged and raped, with photographs of her being taken and later used to blackmail her.
Miriam supplied the address where her incident occurred, which was submitted to the police and resulted in the arrest of Uduak Akpan’s father, as well as Akpan reporting himself to the police and confessing to rapping Ini numerous times and abandoning her with his cousin.
They confirmed Ini had been killed and her remains had been buried the next morning.
