BREAKING: Imo Assembly Impeaches deputy speaker

Amara Iwuanyanwu, the of the Imo State House of Assembly, has been impeached.

During the plenary on Tuesday, he was removed under strong security.

Ekene Nnodim, who represents the Orlu state constituency, sponsored a resolution to remove Iwuanyanwu as , which was endorsed by 18 of the 27 members.

The removal of Iwuanyanwu was approved by the Speaker, Paul Emezim, who presided over the plenary.

Meanwhile, the House of Assembly has recalled six state legislators who had been suspended.

This comes four months after the Speaker controversially suspended the legislators for “unparliamentary behaviour.”

The Speaker’s suspension, which took place on July 8, created chaos in the plenary, with random gunfire filling the air before his security aides snuck him out. It drew widespread condemnation from the citizens of the state as a result.

However, a judge in Owerri, the state capital, dismissed a lawsuit challenging the ban on October 6.

Kingdom Okere, counsel for the troubled lawmakers, told our correspondent that the lawsuit was dismissed when his clients and the House of Assembly leadership reached an agreement.
