Ime Sunday Udoka was born in Portland, Oregon, in the United States, on August 9, 1977, to a Nigerian father and an American mother who was born in Illinois.

The state of Akwa Ibom in Nigeria is where his father, Vitalis Udoka, was born and raised. Ime was able to acquire Nigerian citizenship thanks to his father.

Udoka has been bereft of both of his parents for some time. Both of his parents passed away; his father in 2006, and his mother in late 2011.

The couple had their first encounter in 2010, when Udoka was working for the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant, and they announced their engagement in May of 2015.

The day became parents was November 7, 2011, and they named their baby Kez Sunday Udoka. Because of a prior relationship she had with the actor Massai Z. Dorsey, his fiancee is also the mother of a kid named Massai Zhivago Dorsey II.

After going undrafted in the NBA Draft in 2000, Udoka went on to play for the Fargo-Moorhead Beez of the Independent Basketball Association (IBA) from 2000 to 2001 and for Independiente of Argentina in 2001.

After being taken with the 39th overall pick in the 2002 National Basketball Development League Draft, he made his debut in the NBA Development League in 2002 with the North Charleston Lowgators.

In 2003, while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, the musician made his first appearances in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

After that, he spent the next four years playing in the Developmental League (D-League) and overseas until making his way back to the NBA with the New York Knicks for the 2005-2006 season.

Before making his way back to the Spurs for his final season in the NBA in 2010-11, Udoka spent the 2009–10 campaign playing with the Sacramento Kings.

The year 2012 saw his comeback to the industry as he joined UCAM Murcia. Since the year 2012, he has been functioning in the role of a coach. Up until 2019, he worked as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs.

Following that, he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, and then a year later, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets.

It was announced that he would take over as head coach of the Boston Celtics in 2021.
