In 2013, he declined to serve on President Goodluck Jonathan’s committee to engage in dialogue with Boko Haram members, citing a lack of sincerity on the part of the government.
He is survived by one wife and ten children.
President Muhammadu Buhari expressed sorrow over the death of a renowned urologist and a doyen of Kano’s private medical healthcare in a condolence message.
The late medical practitioner, who was also a friend of the late Head of State General Murtala Mohammed, was the founder of Asmau Memorial Hospital, now renamed Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano, and served as the chairman of the Shari’a Council of Nigeria, according to a statement by presidential spokesman Garba Shehu.
The President described the Ibrahim Datti Ahmed, who once ran for President, as a man blessed with immense wisdom in a tribute to him.
“Dr. Datti was a pioneer in providing healthcare to the poor and disadvantaged. His divine teachings and selfless contribution to society’s welfare will be remembered. “His noble service to society will be remembered,” he said.
Mr Buhari expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family, the Kano Emirate Council, the government, and the people of Kano State, who are mourning the doctor, politician, and religious leader.
