Police Commission Sets Up New Panel On Abba Kyari ’s Indictment
The FBI had charged Kyari in a $1.1 million Internet scam allegedly perpetrated by Instagram influencer Abbas Ramon, also known as Hushpuppi, and four others.
The Police Service Commission has established an in-house panel to examine all available documents relating to Abba Kyari, the suspended former Head of the Intelligence Response Team and Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The panel is expected to look into the facts of the allegations as laid out in the indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as well as the existing rules “as a means of keeping abreast of the situation” until the Special Investigation Panel set up by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, submits its report.

Kyari was previously suspended by the commission with effect from July 31 pending the outcome of the police investigation.
The panel is headed by the Director, Department of Police Discipline in the Commission, Tijani Mohammed, a lawyer, according to the PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday titled, ‘PSC waits for Abba Kyari report, sets up in-house panel.’
The panel’s mission was to “gather and document relevant information on DCP Abba Kyari in light of his disciplinary matter, analyse the information gathered, and make appropriate recommendation/s to the commission,” according to the statement.
The panel, which was inaugurated by Alhaji Abubakar Ismaila, Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Commission, has begun work while the commission awaits the findings of the DIG Joseph Egbunike investigative panel.

“When the investigative panel report is submitted for the commission’s consideration, the report of the in-house panel is expected to assist the commission in making an informed decision,” the statement said.
“The commission had also directed the Inspector-General of Police to provide it with information on any new developments in the case so that it could take appropriate action.”
