Peter Omope, a pastor, was arrested by men from the Ogun State Police Command for attempted murder and unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm.
The pastor of a Celestial Church of Christ, Jesu Yan Parish, located at Olambe junction Akute, Ogun State, was arrested for shooting a female visitor worshipper, Kemi Johnson, at the church’s entrance.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a statement on Saturday.
According to Oyeyemi, the suspect was apprehended after a distress call from one Deji Olalekan was received at the police divisional headquarters in Ajuwon, Akute.
According to Oyeyemi, Olalekan told the police that he and 18-year-old Kemi Johnson drove their boss, with whom they work as a driver and a housemaid, to the airport.

“After dropping the madam, they drove to the house of their boss relation as directed,” he said.
“However, on their way home, they learned that the Oro sacrifice was still going on in the Olambe area, making it impossible for them to pass through.”
“They then came across a celestial church that was holding a vigil and decided to join them despite the fact that it was already late at night.”
While they were standing outside the church, the suspect, who also happened to be the shepherd in charge, came out with a pump action rifle and shot Kemi Johnson in the leg before they could say anything.

“When the DPO, Ajuwon division SP Andrew Akinseye received the distress call, he quickly mobilized his men and moved to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.”
“The victim was rushed to Ifako Ijaye General Hospital, from where she was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and then to the Orthopedics Hospital Igbobi Lagos.”
“The suspect was found with a pump action rifle and five live cartridges.”

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the suspect’s immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for a discreet investigation, according to the PPRO.
