The entire community was wiped out, according to reports, as the bandits razed all of the houses and barns before fleeing with the women they kidnapped.

The invasion took place around 2 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Secretary of Munya local government area, James Isaac Jagaba.

When he visited the community the next day after the attack was reported to the Council, he said the bandits invaded the community with motorcycles and cars, informing him that there were car tracks.

“The bandits set fire to all the houses, burned ten people alive, kidnapped ten women, and slaughtered the rest.

“On their way back from carrying out their heinous act, they came across two people whose vehicle had broken down, so they stopped and killed them, as well as burning down their vehicle.

“Three of the abducted women were able to flee, and the bandits joined the other seven women.

“The bandits wiped out the entire community; no one survived. The women who escaped and are still in shock told us how they carried out their activities.”

The bandits then moved to Shapè village in the Sarki Pawa ward, slaughtering nine people and killing seven in the Gogope ward, according to James.

The bandits were reportedly able to continue their activities unabated due to the failure of mobile networks in the affected areas.

“We were told that all attempts to contact security personnel were futile because the Munya local government’s mobile network had been seized for several days.

“The people were unable to communicate with either the security or the council. We received the message late at the Council, and efforts to obtain security were futile,” James explained.

Monday Bala Kuryas, the Niger Commissioner of Police, confirmed the attack and said an investigation had begun.
