Hoodlums killed a police officer on Wednesday and ransacked a patrol vehicle in Ekwulobia, Anambra State, South-East Nigeria.
After Awka, Onitsha, and Nnewi, Ekwulobia is said to be one of the largest cities in Anambra State.
The conditions surrounding the assault remain hazy, for now.
A video clip posted on Twitter showed the slain officer’s body dumped on the side of the road.

The attackers appeared to have dragged the officer’s rifle away.
Haruna Mohammed, the police spokesperson in Anambra State, confirmed the incident to Ejes Gist NewsOnline.
Mr. Mohammed, the chief police superintendent, said that the state police commissioner had visited the scene of the murder and ordered an investigation.
The spokesperson for the police said they were not yet sure about the number of officers killed. “As I am talking to you, we are still on the scene, so let’s wait until we get the details,” he said.
The attack comes less than 24 hours after the attack on a police station and the killing of two officers in Aba, Abia State, which is still in the south-east.
