Haitian President Jovenel Moïse Assassinated , Wife Injured
A group of assailants killed Jovonel Mose around 1 a.m. this morning, according to Haitian Prime Minister Claude Joseph. The culprits were Spanish-speaking, according to the official statement, but no further information was provided. Martine Mose, the first lady, was also injured in the incident, according to the prime minister.
According to the prime minister’s statement, “a group of unidentified individuals, some of whom spoke Spanish, attacked the President of the Republic’s private residence and fatally injured the Head of State.”

President Barack Obama was 53 years old at the time.
Bitter upheaval occurred in the Caribbean island earlier this year, with protestors demanding Mr Moise’s resignation.

Thousands of protesters questioned the president’s legality, claiming that his five-year tenure should have ended on February 7, 2021, exactly five years after his predecessor Michel Martelly resigned.

Mr Mose, on the other hand, claims he has one more year to serve because he took office on February 7, 2017.
The year-long delay was prompted by claims of electoral fraud, which resulted to the annulment of the 2015 election results and the holding of new elections, which Mr Mose won.
