Gunmen abduct Nigerian Air Force 2-Star General, Air Vice Marshal Sikiru Smith in Lagos
Marshal Sikiru Smith
Smith is a cousin to a former Inspector-General of Police and current Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith.
Several sources have confirmed that the retired general, who is currently the Chairman of Double Wealth Ventures Limited – a dredging and engineering firm – was supervising work on a site in Ajah on Monday when masked gunmen stormed the location and opened fire sporadically.
The retired general was said to have been whisked away in a speedboat that had been waiting for him.
It appears that Air Vice Marshal Sikiru Smith engaged in a struggle with his kidnappers before being subdued, according to an SOS voice note shared by his driver, Corporal Odiji.
According to the Punch Newspaper, Odiji declared, “This is an emergency.” I’m Corporal Odiji, and I’m assigned to Air Vice Marshal Smith’s squadron. They had just taken him away from the construction site where we were working. Some masked assailants have just walked up to my office and snatched my boss away. They were shooting all over the place. I was near where I was working on my boss’s vehicle.
“As I approached, I noticed them leaving in a boat, but I was unarmed, so I simply ran to the location, where I noticed his glasses and the area where he was struggling with them. Please share this information with others. “It is a matter of life and death.”
Child enslavement and abduction is a major problem in Nigeria. It is one of the most serious forms of organised or gang crime in Nigeria, and it poses a threat to national security.
