The Catholic priest  is a native of Avuru Community in Ikeduru council area and works as a lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities at Imo State University.

According to The Nation Newspaper, a Catholic priest was kidnapped in Imo State on Sunday morning.

The priest, Rev. Prof. Izu Marcell Onyeocha, was abducted at Ihube Community in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Express Road around 7:00 a.m.

The victim is a native of Avuru Community in Ikeduru council area and works as a lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities at Imo State University.

When the incident occurred, he was said to be travelling from Enugu to Owerri.

The cleric was driving when the gunmen accosted him, according to a resident of Okigwe city.

The gunmen allegedly fired random shots into the air to compel him to come to a halt.

“The kidnappers fired sporadically in the air to scare away other road users at the scene of the operation,” a resident said. They took the cleric to the scene of the incident in his car.”

Orlando Ikeokwu, the Imo police spokesman, was unable to respond to questions from The Nation because his phone line was unanswered.
