Group Asks Mala Buni To Resign as APC National Chairman

Mala Buni has asked to resign as chairman of the APC.

, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, has been asked to resign by the Progressive Youth Vanguard (PYV), a pressure group within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Yobe Governor is up against a number of challenges. While a large number of members have petitioned various courts to have him removed, others have found flaws in his asset declaration form.

Members of the APC have been asked to refrain from taking the party to court and instead look into internal dispute resolution mechanisms.

The leadership stated that it would compile all of the cases and present them to the National Executive Committee (NEC).

“The list is already being compiled by the party. The NEC will be notified, and a decision will be made. The CECPC supports the NEC resolutions, according to National Secretary John Akpan Udoedehe.

The scribe boasted that the APC’s leadership has President Muhammadu Buhari’s support in ensuring that the party is “given to the grassroot, the people.”

Following the dissolution of the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee by the NEC in 2020, Buni was appointed chairman (NWC).

Until new executives are elected, the caretaker committee will be in charge. However, a number of members point out that Section 4 of Article 17 of the APC constitution prohibits party officials from serving in government.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is also fighting the case in court. Buni’s opponents and the platform referred to the Supreme Court ruling that declared Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu the winner of the October 10, 2020 election.

Some Justices reportedly agreed that a sitting governor should not hold dual official positions when dismissing the appeal filed by PDP candidate Eyitayo Jegede.

PYV Coordinator Ahmed Usman expressed regret for the President’s “silence on what has become a frustrating issue” in a statement.

Usman stated that they were concerned about Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s body language and that they were not willing to take any more chances.

President Buhari, Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, and Buni, he promised, will not be allowed to continue making mistakes.

“It’s time to call it quits. We believe that within the APC, we have capable hands capable of managing our party’s affairs. Why does it have to be one person?

“The provision of Section 183 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) is unambiguous to the effect that the Governor shall not hold any other executive office or paid employment in any capacity during the period in which he holds office.

“It is therefore unmistakable that the Governor’s continued tenure as the APC’s Chief Executive Officer is in violation of the Constitution and may be an albatross around the neck of the party.

“Everything he had done before, including the nomination of candidates during his so-called leadership of the party, would be null and void.

“We expect President Buhari to order Governor Buni to resign as acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress immediately, because a stitch in time saves nine,” says the statement.

The statement continued, “This is the same man who is currently embroiled in a multi-billion naira asset declaration scandal at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).”
