2021 World Earth Day, IAWPA To Mark the Return of America To Paris Agreement
As the International community prepares to celebrate World Earth Day, the International Association of World Peace Advocate a renowned international group with the United Nations ECOSOC Special Consultative Status since 2019 has concluded plans to mark the return of the United States to the Paris Agreement which was abandoned by the Donald Trump administration.
The theme for this year is Restore our Earth. The event will feature a special lecture on Climate Literacy and Climate Justice by Prof. Ubom A. E. Bassey a Professor of Science and Environmental Management. The event will take place at the Merit House, Abuja, Nigeria on Thursday 22nd April 2020 with all Covid-19 protocols observed.
A statement by the International Spokesman of the association Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke said the return of the United States to the agreement is a gateway to global peace and achievement to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations a historic multilateral effort that will reduce global emissions of greenhouse gases and combat the harmful effects of climate change.

Amb. Nkweke said the association has specially invited the United States Embassy under its Ambassador to Nigeria Her Excellency, Amb. Mary Beth Leonard to be part of the event which is aimed at underscoring the importance of that day to Nigeria and the world at large.
He also hailed the swift approach which the Joe Biden administration took in returning the United States to the Paris Agreement a promise well kept and also setting up a very effective Climate team under the former Secretary of States John Kerry and Gina McCarthy, the former head of the Environmental Protection Agency.
“As we celebrate the World Earth Day 2021 and the return of the United States to the Paris Agreement, we the International Association of World Peace Advocates want to especially thank the Joe Biden administration for its commitment to tackling climate change by allocating more than a trillion dollars to it.
We are also calling on governments worldwide to show commitment also to making the Earth a better place far and above the way we have met it. This is a commitment that will help our future generations” Amb. Nkweke added.
Meanwhile, many Foreign Embassies have been invited to grace the occasion which includes the British High Commission, embassies of China, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain and High Commissions of Canada, South Africa, Kenyan.
Amb. Dr Abraham Olanrewaju, The International Director Diaspora Matters of the association USA also told newsmen that the event will also witness other side activities like the inauguration of the Earth Day Volunteer Corps, Tree Planting and removal of plastic waste in Abuja metropolis as the order of the day is expected to be directed and chaired by an Earth Day Advocate Amb. Jehoshaphat Virtue O. A. Onyekeenejo.
It should be noted that President Joe Biden of the United States will on Thursday the 22nd of April host a special session on climate change which is expected to discuss issues affecting the environment.
IAWPA which recently inaugurated Nigerian born American Congressman Hon. Oye Owolewa said it was seizing the opportunity of that day to also honour the decision of the American government to return to the Paris Agreement as well as support its climate change efforts.
Dignitaries expected to grace the event include Sen. Ike Ekweremadu who is the Senate Committee chairman on the environment as well as his counterpart in ecology Sen. Hassan Mohammed Gusau as well as the House of Representative’s Committee Chairmen of Ecological fund Hon. Isiaka Ibrahim as well as his counterpart in the Committee on Environment Hon. Johnson Ogbuma.
