How Bandits Kidnapped Greenfield University  Students. 

More details have emerged about how Greenfield University students and a female staff member were kidnapped from the institution’s premises in Kasarami, Chikun Local Government Area, on the Kaduna-Abuja highway.

According to one of the students rescued by Operation Thunder Strike troops, bandits aged 17 to 20 raided the university about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The student (name withheld) said that the bandits attacked the premises near kilometre 34 on the highway from various angles and burgled some doors to carry out the assault.

“The bandits are young boys between the ages of 17 and 20, but they came in heavily armed, firing sporadically into the air.

“They struck some of the students, injuring them, killed our porter, and fled with some of our coworkers; I don’t know the exact number, but I know it’s mostly people, including the matron.

He revealed that the porter was shot while attempting to close the door against the bandits in order to shield us.

 

Bashir Muhammad, the university’s registrar, who was at the Operation Thunder Strike camp where the rescued students were being held before being released to their parents, said he would not comment on the matter because the university’s Pro-Chancellor had ordered him not to.

 

He promised, however, that the school administration would comment on the matter on or before Friday, after the specifics of what happened had been gathered.

 

The abductors had already contacted some of the parents, who declined to talk to journalists, and demanded a ransom in the millions of dollars, according to The Country.

The Registrar also acknowledged that the parents had been contacted for ransom, but declined to say how much was requested.

 

At the scene of the attack, some parents of the abducted students were too traumatised to talk.

 

They were seen talking in groups about how to save their children.
