According to Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, there is no animosity between him and Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, as some have speculated.

In a statement on Saturday, the governor’s spokesman, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, added that Diri and his predecessor have a very good relationship.

“In the last few weeks, as political activity has increased, some people and groups have engaged in spinning all kinds of stories based on their own presumptions,” he said.

“It is clear that their goal, which verges on maliciousness, is to drive a wedge between me and , my immediate predecessor in office, on the one hand, and within our political family within the People’s Democratic Party, on the other.

“I purposefully decided to ignore such careless and obviously sponsored reports, which are primarily found online and on social media.

The governor continued, “Consistent with my character, temperament, and governance ideals, I have restrained and directed my media assistants from joining arguments or responding to some of these malicious reports.

As the leader of Bayelsa State, one of my duties is to promote peace and unity among the people as the indispensable engine for sound governance and state development.

The rumours going around, according to Diri, are “an exercise in futility for those trying to sow seeds of discord.”

“At every opportunity, I have consistently acknowledged and shown respect to my predecessors, especially the man who handed the reins of government to me, he said. For those attempting to sow the seeds of conflict, it is therefore a fruitless endeavour.

“Given the benefit of the doubt, there is no animosity between me and my most recent predecessor. Our relationship continues to be friendly and respectful.

“I therefore urge our people to disregard such reports and consider them the work of troublemakers who have bad intentions for our state and its development. No matter how hard our critics try, my administration remains on course, focused, and unmovable.
