Gernot Rohr replaces an injured Iwobi with Moffi ahead of the CAR doubleheader.
Iwobi was absent for Everton’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday, as manager Rafa Benitez confirmed that the Nigerian international was suffering from an injury.
It is expected that the winger will miss the team’s 2022 World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic (CAR), which they will play in a doubleheader later this month.
Terem Moffi, a striker for Lorient who has made two appearances for the national team since making his debut in a friendly against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in June, has been called up to replace Iwobi in the starting lineup.
Iwobi isn’t the only Premier League player who will be unable to participate in the CAR matches due to a hamstring injury.
Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City and Oghenekaro Etebo of Watford were also forced to withdraw from their respective matches due to injuries.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on the Central African Republic on Thursday, October 7 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria.
It is scheduled to take place in Doula, Cameroon on Sunday, October 10, in the rematch of the tie.
Nigeria leads Group C with two wins from two games, while Liberia is in second place with three points, followed by Cape Verde and the Central African Republic, both of whom have one point.
