Godwin Obaseki- Edo State Governor

Fulfil your campaign promises

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has been admonished by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to focus on completing his re-election campaign promises to the people rather than engaging in self-adulation.

The party issued the advice in a statement signed by Victor Osehobo, the party’s Assistant State Publicity Secretary, on Wednesday in Benin.

The APC was reacting to Mr Obaseki’s presentation on Tuesday at the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs in Lagos, in which he purportedly described himself as a successful administrator.

Mr Osehobo said Edo residents were concerned by Mr Obaseki’s chest-beating that his administration had done very well in the last six years.

The unpleasant home-truths persisted, according to the APC spokesperson, that Mr Obaseki’s administration’s major pillars, such as “signing of frivolous MoUs and partnerships with all-comers,” were not working.

“Because Governor Obaseki has made it a habit of visiting Lagos on a regular basis to whitewash his administration, we owe it to posterity to inform the governor of our candid assessment.”

“The government began its fifth year in office with an unattainable MEGA (Make Edo Great Again) theme, focusing on how to use governance to serve Edo people and build an enabling business environment so that Edo people can do business without harassment.

“However, the situation is reversed. Official goons are terrorising ordinary folks around Edo in the name of collecting taxes.

“As things stand, the average Edo person is fed up with the Obaseki-led PDP government’s broken promises, multiple taxes, and promotion of street trading with daily levies on all actors and others.”

“On the domestic front, Edo state debt has more than doubled, while on the international front, the state under Governor Obaseki has been transformed into the country’s most foreign indebted state.”

Mr. Osehobo stated that public schools lack teachers and many lack basic supplies such as desks and chairs.
