Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue says he is not going to be distracted by the “false comment” credited to Garba Shehu on Federal Government’s plan to ascertain Ruga settlement in the state.
While talking on ChannelsTelevision on Monday, July 1, 2019, Shehu mentioned Ortom shouldn’t have made any comment on the scheme as Benue state was not included in the challenge.
The presidential spokesman was reacting to the governor’s opposition to the initiative. Ortom had mentioned Benue is not going to give room for open grazing.
In a statement by his chief press secretary, Terve Akase, Ortom described the declare of Shehu as stunning.
He mentioned the Federal Government by means of the Ministry of Agriculture notified the state of its plan to ascertain Ruga settlement in Otukpo, Tarka and Ukum native authorities areas of Benue state.
He additionally mentioned signposts have been erected in numerous elements of the state by contractors despatched in by the Federal Government.
“We watched in disbelief the comments Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu made last night during the 10pm news of Channels Television,” he mentioned.
“He said that Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, shouldn’t have spoken towards the imposition of Ruga settlements on his state as a result of, in response to the Presidential spokesman, the Governor was not included in the Ruga plan. The statement was as contradictory because it was false, deceptive and missing honour.
“The Federal Government, by means of its Ministry of Agriculture wrote to the Benue State Government informing it in regards to the decision to ascertain Ruga settlements in the three senatorial zones of the state. Our Ministry of Agriculture which acquired the correspondence responded that Benue has no land for the Ruga settlements. It added that the state solely has land for ranches as stipulated by the state’s Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017.
“The Benue State Government subsequently made public its rejection of the Ruga mannequin of animal husbandry and reminded these pushing for the unlawful settlement patterns about provisions of the nation’s Constitution and the Land Use Act.
“We have been subsequently shocked to listen to Mallam Shehu declare that Governor Ortom was not invited/included in the Ruga challenge and subsequently had no proper to comment on it.
“If the Senior Special Assistant to the President claims that Benue was not included in the Ruga association, why did the Federal Government send contractors to mount the challenge’s signposts in elements of the state? If Benue was not included in the Ruga settlements, why did the Federal Government say it has gazetted lands in the 36 states for the challenge?
“It is now clear that Mallam Garba Shehu is deceptive the Presidency and telling lies a few delicate matter that impacts your entire nation.
“We select to not be a part of him in his consolation zone – the place he makes unpresidential statements and vilifies anybody with a opposite opinion. His repeated unprovoked assaults on the particular person and workplace of the Benue State Governor solely expose his temperament and people of others in the identical league as individuals who’re illiberal of other views on points.
“Benue people re-elected Governor Ortom because they were convinced that he is the one who truly represents and protects their interests. The Governor will therefore neither be distracted nor be intimidated by the antics of the likes of Garba Shehu. For Governor Ortom, the interest of Benue State and the entire country takes priority over parochial interests.”
Meanwhile, Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong, has accused former president Goodluck Jonathan of budgetting N10 billion for the institution of Ruga settlements however they “did not see the money”.
