The FG has Banned SIM Card Importation
The importation of SIM cards has been completely banned by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami announced the news on Monday in Oniru, Lagos.
The Nigeria Office for Developing Indigenous Telecoms Sector (NODITS) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), hosted the Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Content Expo (NTICE), where he gave a speech.
Pantami argued that the largest nation in Africa shouldn’t be importing goods ( SIM card ) that could be made in Nigeria.

“Let me be very clear: The importation of SIM card is no longer acceptable to the federal government. They are currently being made in Nigeria.
The minister stated, “Our goal is to increase indigenous content in the ICT sector so that by 2025, we will be at least 80% self-reliant.”
Pantami pleaded with stakeholders and citizens to back government initiatives to increase local purchasing and patronage.
The professor of cybersecurity continued, “History will be kind to all of us if we do this.
Pantami announced in June that a SIM card manufacturing facility had been established in Lagos by the Buhari administration.

The facility, which was constructed with assistance from the private sector, has the ability to export 200 million cards each year to other African nations.
