Federal Government Announces N386,000 Fees for Students in Unity Colleges.
The Federal Ministry of Education has announced N386,000 as the approved fees/charges for Senior Secondary School students in Federal Unity Colleges for the first term.
According to a document released by the ministry’s Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, the fees cover tuition, boarding, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, medical care, stationery, vocational studies, sporting activities, membership of clubs and societies, utilities, security, extra lessons, website/e-result/ICT, skool media, and insurance.

A breakdown of the fees shows that tuition will cost N97,000, while boarding fees will amount to N120,000. JSS1 and SS1 uniforms will cost N50,000, while textbooks will cost N45,000. Exercise books will cost N13,000 per session.
Other charges include N10,000 for medical care, N5,000 for stationery, N2,000 for vocational studies, N5,000 for sporting activities, N2,000 for membership of clubs and societies, N5,000 for utilities, N2,000 for security, N10,000 for extra lessons, N5,000 for website/e-result/ICT, N5,000 for skool media (once a session), and N10,000 for insurance.

The announcement of the fees has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians. Some parents have expressed concern about the high cost, while others have said that the fees are justified given the quality of education provided by the unity colleges.
