Fela Anikulapo Kuti was nominated for the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a late Afrobeat pioneer.
The Nigerian icon, along with other veteran stars such as Mary J. Blige, Kate Bush, Devo, Foo Fighters, The Go- Go’s, Iron Maiden, Jay-Z, Chaka Khan, Carole King, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, and Dionne Warwick, was announced as one of the nominees on Wednesday.

“The president of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, John Skyles, said in a statement: “This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music celebrated by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
“These nominees have had an indelible effect on the world’s sonic landscape and have affected countless artists who have followed them.”
He will make history as the first Nigerian artist in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame if Fela Kuti is inducted.

Fela is remembered as an influential icon who was brave enough to express his views boldly on issues that through his music affected the nation. He was referred to as one of Africa’s most “challenging and charismatic music performers.” at the height of his popularity.
By April 30, music lovers can cast their votes for their favourite stars on the Hall website as the 2021 inductees will be announced in May, with the ceremony taking place this fall in Cleveland.
