What is ? Here is How actress survived it for whole 20 years. 

Nollywood actress on Thursday finally opened about her battle with , a neurological condition where tissue appears outside a woman’s uterus.

The actress stated in an Instagram post that the disease has caused her “vicious pain” for more than 20 years.

Zainab Balogun revealed that the treatment caused her to lose her hair.

Her post reads;

“This time last year, I was reminded that it was Endometriosis Awareness month. After a year I wasn’t ready to share. Stage 4 Endometriosis, they said.

“I took this picture just after I noticed I was losing my hair as a result of treatment. It took a lot not to burst into tears because I love my hair! To see batches of it in my hands stung. It still does but we’re gonna get it back.

“I was really happy to finally have an accurate diagnosis because it meant I finally knew the root of twenty something years of excruciating pain.

“I liken the pain to someone taking a barbed wire to your insides and twisting it continuously for days on end. It’s not mere period cramps, aches or discomfort. It’s a vicious pain!”

According to Balogun, “Endometriosis affects one in 10 women. It’s an unseen chronic condition that is often misdiagnosed. It doesn’t get enough attention or research.

“Endometriosis is when tissue lining the uterus grows outside of it. Endo lesions can form everywhere from the lungs, intestines, ovaries, Fallopian tubes and more.”

Endometriosis is a medical disorder in which tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside the uterus of human.
With endometriosis, the tissue can be found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes or the intestines.

This tissue trapped in your pelvis can cause:

  • irritation
  • scar formation
  • adhesions, in which tissue binds your pelvic organs together
  • severe pain that occurs during the menstrual cycle
  • fertility problems

Symptoms of Endometriosis.

The most common symptoms are pain and menstrual irregularities. Requires a medical diagnosis.

You may also have the following symptoms:

  • painful periods
  • cramps 1 or 2 weeks around menstruation
  • heavy menstrual bleeding or bleeding between periods
  • infertility
  • pain during sexual intercourse
  • discomfort with bowel movements
  • lower back pain that may occur at any time during your menstrual cycle
People may experience:
Pain areas: in the lower abdomen, lower back, pelvis, rectum, or vagina
Pain circumstances: can occur during sexual intercourse or while defecating
Menstrual: abnormal menstruation, heavy menstruation, irregular menstruation, painful menstruation, or spotting
Gastrointestinal: constipation or nausea
Abdominal: abdominal fullness or cramping
Also common: infertility.

What causes endometriosis?

The most likely cause of endometriosis is retrograde menstrual flow. Some of the tissue shed during the period travels to other parts of the body, including the pelvis, via the fallopian tube. Factors of heredity Endometriosis may be passed down through the generations due to its familial nature.
