Names Eight Nigerians Convicted In Abeokuta Over Fraudulent Impersonation

On Thursday, March 25, 2021, before Justice Mohammed Abubakar of the Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Ibadan zonal office, obtained eight convictions.

Olayiwola Olamilekan Adewole, Raji Wasiu Olalekan, Uthman Dolapo Muhammed, Usman Toheeb Olawale, Oyesoji Tosin Isaac, Okegbenro Idris Olalekan, Oluwole Olusukanmi Yinka, and Akinlolu akintunde Toheed are among the defendants.
Following a plea deal with the EFCC, the defendants each pled guilty to one count of impersonation.

After hearing their appeals, Justice Abubakar found them guilty and sentenced them to different prison terms, as well as ordering that their victims be returned to them.

Olayiwola, Oyesoji, and Usman were each sentenced to four months in jail, with the option of a fine of N100,000, N300,000, or N50,000, respectively, while Raji, Uthman, Okegbenro, and Akiolu were each sentenced to three months in prison. Uthman, Okegbenro, and Akiolu each received a fine of N200, 000, N50, 000, and N100, 000.

Oluwole was found guilty and was sentenced to two months in jail without the possibility of a fine.

The court also ordered Olayiwola to pay $1,100 USD to his victim, $300 USD to Raji, N1, 184,336.51 to Uthman, $1,800 USD to Oyesoji, $1,800 USD to Usman, $70 USD to Oni, $1,000 USD to Oluwole, and N205,228:65 to Akinlolu.

All objects seized from the convicts must be forfeited to the Nigerian Federal Government.
