Egypt vs Morocco

Egypt 2-1 Morocco

EGYPT HAVE DONE IT! They are through to the semi-finals – Cameroon up next for them.

A really impressive comeback win, Salah and Trezeguet with the goals after Boufal’s early opener. It was nervy at the end, but job done for Egypt!

live  Score (2-1)

42 mins: Salah vs Masina… Masina wins. Good strong defending from the Morocco man to stop Salah beating him for pace. Egypt keep the pressure on and win the corner though.

Extra time begins for Egypt 1-1 Morocco

44 mins: Hegazi loses it and then goes down – looks to be in a lot of pain.

Morocco have space to break into in his absence, but they don’t make the most of it. Hegazi certainly wasn’t fouled, might have pulled his groin stretching.

GOAL! Egypt 1-1 Morocco | Sofiane Boufal 7′

Sends the goalkeeper the wrong way and Morocco are in front early in this match!

No surprise there, referee quickly points to the spot. Egypt can have no complaints about that.

Big early chance for Morocco to take the lead.

4 mins: Ashraf with a dreadful tackle in the box, late on Hakimi and he brings the right-back down…. no penalty given?!

Referee over to look at the replays, this will surely be overturned.

2 mins: Egypt enjoying the early possession, no real pressure from Morocco when they have it in defence.

Everything points to this being a tight and cagey affair.

Egypt vs Morocco face off in a rematch of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals at the same stage of this year’s tournament in Cameroon.

The Atlas Lions were sent packing by a Kahraba strike at the death five years ago in Port-Gentil, and now the two teams meet again while enjoying successful campaigns.

Egypt may have finished second in their group behind Nigeria, but Carlos Quieroz’s side survived a grueling match against Ivory Coast on Wednesday to advance to the knockout stages. The Pharaohs are vying for their eighth continental championship.

Morocco had to come from behind the day before to avoid Malawi’s banana skin. Without an AFCON title in over 45 years, there is renewed hope in Cameroon that the drought will be broken, with the winners facing either the hosts or Gambia in the semi-final.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Egypt vs Morocco is scheduled for a 4pm WAT Nigeria Time   kick-off on Sunday, January 30, 2022.

Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde will host the match.

Team news

Mohamed El-Shennawy, who was forced out of the last-16 match against Ivory Coast due to a hamstring strain, will have more tests done. Hamdi Fathi was also forced to leave the game and is a doubt for this one.

Morocco is still waiting for Ilias Chair, who missed the win over Malawi due to a problem he picked up in the group stage against Gabon.

On this occasion, two very evenly matched teams are more than likely to require a shootout to separate them.
