On Wednesday, June 8, the Edo State Government halted all union activity at all state-owned institutions of higher learning.

Crusoe Osagie, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki’s Special Adviser on Media Projects, stated in a statement that the decision was made at the State Executive Council meeting.

ASUU, the Non-Academic Staff of Universities, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, and all allied unions operating across all state-owned tertiary institutions are among the unions that are affected.

In a statement, he said:

“Academic operations in all state-owned institutions are to begin as soon as possible as a result of this announcement, and all cadres of staff are to report to their duty positions promptly.”

“Students at all state-owned tertiary institutions may expect to resume lectures as soon as possible, as required preparations to secure the resumption of academic and non-academic activities have been taken.”

“All unpaid salary must be paid immediately by the concerned institutions’ management.”

“The management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, is hereby directed to institute a no-work-no-pay policy, declare vacant, and advertise the post of any staff member who refuses to resume work in accordance with this direction.”
