The price of crude oil

On Thursday evening, Brent crude fell 1.23 percent to $72.79 per barrel, as the International Energy Agency reported that the global oil market had returned to surplus, and some countries tightened restrictions in an effort to combat the Omicron Covid-19 variant.

Oil prices fell for a third day as more restrictions were imposed to combat the spread of the omicron Covid-19 variant, while demand in China fell as Beijing tightened its grip on the virus, pollution, and rule-breakers.

Futures in New York fell below $70 per barrel, extending a more than 2% drop this week.

In 2022, China, the world’s largest crude importer, is expected to have a more restrained appetite, partially offsetting the seasonal increase in demand from refineries to replenish inventories.

This week’s crude oil inventory draw is expected to be 815,000 barrels, according to the American Petroleum Institute (API).

The price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 1.27 percent to $69.83 per barrel on Friday. Natural gas prices increased by 1.33 percent to $3,797 per thousand cubic feet, while the OPEC Basket dropped by 1.41 percent to $74.03 per barrel.

Nigeria’s external reserve fell by 0.04 percent to $40.888 billion on Friday, December 10th, 2021. This represents a $17 million decrease from the previous day’s total of $40.905 billion.

The apex bank’s continuous intervention in ensuring the exchange rate’s stability can be attributed to the country’s reserve level’s consistent decline.

Nigeria’s external reserve fell by $633.47 million in November, compared to a gain of $5.99 million the previous month and a gain of $2.76 million in September 2021. The reserve gain for the year to date has dropped to $5.74 billion.
