In August, Nigeria’s inflation rate reached 20.5%.

ePayments transactions in Nigeria have reached an all-time high.

Summary:

Azman Air resumed passenger service hours after the company suspended it due to a dispute with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other aviation agencies.

Remember that the airline had suspended operations due to its inability to pay the N1.2 billion debt owed to NCAA and other aviation agencies as a result of the 5% TSC and Cargo Sales Charge (CSC).

Azman Air’s debt prevented it from renewing its Air Transport Licence (ATL), which was set to expire in April 2021. The NCAA refused to renew the licence, preventing the company from flying in Nigerian airspace.

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between ECOWAS and Morocco, the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project was officially launched.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited announced this in a statement issued Thursday following a meeting between the two countries and ECOWAS at the Sofitel in Rabat, Morocco.

The 5,600-kilometer pipeline would connect to Europe via Morocco after passing through 13 African countries.

Nigeria’s headline inflation maintained its upward trend, rising 20.52 percent year on year in August 2022, according to the country’s data agency, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

This is higher than the previous month’s figure of 19.64 percent.

Headline inflation has risen steadily over the last nine months, prompting the Central Bank of Nigeria to raise the country’s benchmark interest rate, the Monetary Policy Rate, by 250 basis points between April and July this year, from 11.5 percent to 14 percent.

According to the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems (NIBSS), N33.2 trillion in transactions were completed electronically in August through the NIBSS Instant Payment.

Major Factors Influencing dollars to naira today black market

Here are some of the reasons for the dollars-to-naira exchange rate decline.

Inflation Rates: Inflation is well understood to have a direct impact on black market exchange rates. If the Nigerian economy can be stabilised and inflation is brought under control, the naira will benefit; however, if the naira continues to fall, it could indicate that food and other necessities are becoming more expensive on a daily basis.

Interest Rates: Another tool to keep an eye on is interest rates. If the interest rate at which banks lend money rises, the economy will contract and the naira’s value will fall.

Government Debt:

National debt can have an impact on investor confidence and, as a result, the flow of funds into the economy. If capital inflows are significant, the naira exchange rate will rise in its favour.

Speculators: Speculators frequently influence the naira and USD exchange rates. They hoard money in the hope of making a profit, causing the naira to plummet even further.

Conditions of Trade: Despite the fact that Nigeria currently has a trade deficit, favourable trade terms will cause the naira to appreciate against the dollar. Everything is supplied by China, India, and the majority of Asian countries.
