Meanwhile, Domestic debt servicing increased by more than N247 billion in 2017.
According to new data released by the Debt Management Office (DMO), Nigeria’s total public debt increased by 2.98 percent in the second quarter of this year to N42.84 trillion ($103.31 billion).

The total public debt stock includes the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), the 36 state governments, and the Federal Capital Territory’s domestic and external debt stocks.

From N39.56 trillion at the end of last year, the debt stock increased by N3.28 trillion in the first half of this year.

The total external debt stock increased to $40.06 billion (N16.61 trillion) as of June 30, 2022, up from $39.96 billion (N16.61 trillion) in March, according to the DMO.

“Concessional and semi-concessional loans from multilateral lenders such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Afrexim, and African Development Bank, as well as bilateral lenders such as Germany, China, Japan, India, and France,” it said.

The total domestic debt stock as of June 30, 2022, was N26.23 trillion ($63.24 billion), according to the debt office, due to new borrowings by the FGN to partially finance the deficit in the 2022 Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) Act, as well as new borrowings by state governments and the FCT.

The total public debt to GDP ratio was 23.06 percent as of June 30, 2022, compared to 23.27 percent as of March 30, 2022, and remains within Nigeria’s self-imposed limit of 40 percent, according to the report.

“While the FGN continues to implement revenue-generating initiatives in the non-oil sector and plug leakages in the oil sector,” the DMO said, “the debt service-to-revenue ratio remains high.”

The USD to Naira Black Market Calculator depends on the volume of dollars available in the black market.

Disclaimer:  The exchange rate of the dollars to naira black market is regulated by supply and demand, but the is determined by the CBN Governor and monetary policy.

Major Factors Influencing black market

Here are some of the reasons for the dollars-to-naira exchange rate decline.

Inflation Rates: Inflation is well understood to have a direct impact on black market exchange rates. If the Nigerian economy can be stabilised and inflation is brought under control, the naira will benefit; however, if the naira continues to fall, it could indicate that food and other necessities are becoming more expensive on a daily basis.

Interest Rates: Another tool to keep an eye on is interest rates. If the interest rate at which banks lend money rises, the economy will contract and the naira’s value will fall.

Government Debt:

National debt can have an impact on investor confidence and, as a result, the flow of funds into the economy. If capital inflows are significant, the naira exchange rate will rise in its favour.

Speculators: Speculators frequently influence the naira and USD exchange rates. They hoard money in the hope of making a profit, causing the naira to plummet even further.

Conditions of Trade: Despite the fact that Nigeria currently has a trade deficit, favourable trade terms will cause the naira to appreciate against the dollar. Everything is supplied by China, India, and the majority of Asian countries.

In Nigeria, there is no uniform us dollars to naira exchange rate.
