This adopted the suspension of the licences of the 2 broadcast stations by NBC.  Kawu introduced the shutdown.

He stated the motion was taken because of the failure of the broadcasting stations to abide by broadcasting code.

Addressing a world press convention yesterday in Abuja, the nation’s capital, Dokpesi urged the Presidency to take away Kawu from workplace within the collective curiosity of the nation’s broadcast trade.

He stated: “Ishaq Moddibo Kawu was dragged to court by the Independent Corrupt Practices and different Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on a 12-count-charge bordering on fraud within the Digital Switchover Project of the Federal Government, and members of his administration at NBC have overtly testified in opposition to him in court.

“Can this man stay unbiased of exterior and clandestine influences? Can the scandal he's embroiled in be used to affect his efficiency as a regulator?

“Is it doable that he'll go the additional mile over and past the powers of the NBC to realize favour from politicians and powers who might have affect on whether or not to retain him as DG and supply him a comfortable touchdown on the fees in opposition to him? Is he a match and correct particular person with the curiosity of the trade at coronary heart to steer the regulatory physique?

“Kawu should know that the appropriate factor for him to do is to step down from the management of the NBC, a minimum of, till such a time that he's acquitted of the fees in opposition to him. Do I want to inform him the appropriate factor to do?

“Can the broadcasters he is regulating freely raise these issues against him as a public figure? I make bold to unequivocally call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately relieve him of his duty at the NBC to allow the industry to breathe fresh air.”

Every reference and reportage from numerous sections of the nation regarding injustice, inequality and iniquity is reprehended as a risk to nationwide safety.

“If we are critical of this government’s commitment to the tenets of democracy, it is because we have witnessed unabated interferences, harassment and intimidation by the agencies under the executive arm of government on the institutions of democracy and their principal officers. This includes the leadership of the National Assembly, the Judiciary and now the Fourth Estate of the realm.”

“We have by no means refused this authorities a slot to reply or to answer to those positions. We have, quite the opposite, invited them occasions with out quantity to look at no cost to elucidate their positions and tackle the agitations of unusual Nigerians.

“But they can't decide what questions we ask them and what points are off-limits. They should seem, figuring out that they're subjecting themselves to public scrutiny. The representatives of this authorities have largely not taken up the chance to rise to this problem.

“Our obligation as provided for in Section 22 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is to hold government, public officers and people in power accountable to the public. If AIT appears biased in propagating its editorial position, it is because the representatives of government have shied away from giving account of themselves on our platform and not because AIT denies the government opportunity to make their perspectives known to our audiences.”
