Dismissed Army Corporal, caught trying to Rob Ekiti Bank

Some suspected armed robbers in navy uniform, heading for Ekiti State to rob a financial institution, have been arrested in Ibadan by the  Police Special Tactical Squad (IGP – STS), connected to the Ogun State Police Command.


The suspects, Matthew Olagoke, Ahmed Abdulahi, Johnson Ojo and Adebanjo Bamidele had been planning to assault a financial institution in Ekiti State  when IGP-STS grew to become conscious of the plot, trailed them to Ibadan and nabbed them as they had been heading for Ekiti State.

Commissioner Kenneth Ebrimson, who paraded the suspects yesterday earlier than reporters at Eleweran, the command’s headquarters, described the quartet as ‘fake soldiers’ and displayed the three shot weapons, 20 dwell cartridges, three id playing cards, 4 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) playing cards, seven telephones, an expended cartridge and charms recovered from them.


According to the Nation Newspaper,  the deliberate assault was spearheaded by a dismissed corporal within the Army, recognized as  Adebamji Bamgboye.

The suspects had been intercepted on the New Gbagi Market, alongside the Ibadan-Ife expressway in Ibadan the place their car was flagged down for a search by IGP-STS from Ogun Command, who had been on their path from Abeokuta.

Ebrimson mentioned that the gang specialised in robbing filling stations, banks in addition to college hostels, including that that they had attacked University of Ibadan and Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

Speaking to reporters, the chief of the faux troopers, Bamgboye, mentioned that he was recruited to lead the theft gang on a mission to the financial institution in Ekiti State after an assurance that the financial institution supervisor and 6 different workers of the financial institution had agreed to work for the success of the operation
