Joseph Egbunike, the Director-General of the Federal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), died late Tuesday night at the National Hospital in Abuja, according to reliable sources.

“Tragically, he died after a long illness that left his neck swollen for years,” a police source said. “He had been flown to London for treatment before returning to work, but he did not recover well.”

DIG will hold this position until late 2020 when he will be promoted to DIG. Joseph Egbunike had been the head of the police finance department for several years.
