BREAKING: Customs Seize N270 Million Worth of Weapons at Lagos Airport
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the interception of a larger cache of arms and ammunition at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMA) in Lagos, valued at ₦270 million.
The seized consignment, is from Turkiye and was found in the airport’s cargo section. One of the suspect has been detained.

Military equipment and gear were also among the items confiscated by the NCS Airport Command.
This development comes just 48 hours after another significant seizure of a container filled with arms and ammunition smuggled from Turkiye at Onne Port, Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday night, Comptroller General of the NCS, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, confirmed the latest seizure: “On 19th June 2024, the MMA 2 command deployed personnel to man all exit points and conduct examinations on all consignments due to the intelligence available to us. During this examination, a parcel with number 235/587737755 from Turkiye was intercepted.
“The consignment was isolated, and we found 55 pieces of Tomahawk semi-automatic short guns. One suspect has been arrested.”
Earlier, the NCS reported intercepting a 40-feet container at Onne Port, Rivers State, containing pump action rifles and ammunition worth N4.17 billion.
The inspection of the container, labeled “MAEU165396, revealed 844 rifles and 112,500 pieces of live ammunition imported from Turkiye.
