….. Condemns the gruesome killing of a youth in Warri by the Army

The Governor of Delta state, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi has been enjoined to take advantage of the 2 weeks sit at home order by him on the residents of the state to fumigate the entire state as a strong preventive measure against the dreaded .

This charge was given by the in a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Nnamdi Ofonye and made available to newsmen in Asaba on Friday.

The group noted that ordering residents out of their normal and daily means of livelihood is not enough despite being one of the measures adopted across the world to break the chain of the virus, if other stringent measures are not initiated and implemented using the window, it will amount to a wasted opportunity if such actions are not taken before the expiration of the lock down.

The statement read in part, ” while we are thankful to God that no single case has been recorded in our dear state, it calls for more proactiveness on the part of the state Government to borrow a leaf from China and some states in Nigeria that has embarked on total fumigation of their streets during the lock down window”.

“We are most surprised that after day 3 of the sit at home order, no visible action has been taken by the Government by either way of palliatives for the residents or physical proactive measures against the virus. We were of the believe that such plans were already concluded hence the order”.

The group commended the decision of the state government and its machineries to deploy strict measures at ensuring that prices of food stuffs are not unnecessarily hiked so as not to aggravate the pains of the people within this period but frowned at the continuous collection of exorbitant levies from the traders at the various designated selling points by some alleged government task force members.

AYFW in the light of the above circumstances, further suggested in a better alternative that the state Government should instead buy off these foods items and farm produce from the producers across the state and sell them at subsidised rates to the residents as a way of cushioning the effects of the lock down on the citizens of the state.

More so, the group through its National President, condemned in strong terms the Thursday murder of a youth in Warri allegedly by a Soldier purportedly enforcing the sit at home order.

While commiserating with the leadership of the Itsekiri National Youth Council and the family of the deceased, they called on both the state and Federal Governments to take all necessary measures at ensuring that the culprit and his accomplices are identified and brought to book so as to serve as a deterrent to other trigger happy security operatives across the country.
