Some of Senator Rochas Okorocha’s aides, arraigned by police, were released on bail.
According to Punch, an Aide-de-camp to former Imo state governor Eberendu Chiimechefulem, his legislative assistant Steve Asinuobi and 12 other Rochas Okorocha aides, a N5m bond bail was granted on Monday to each of the accused.
B.U Adikaibe, the magistrate who ruled on the bail request made for the release of the defendants, also insisted that a traditional state ruler must stand as a guarantee.
They were charged with a six-count bordering conspiracy charge, infringement of public peace, possession of firearms, unlawful destruction of the official seal of the Imo State Government, a defamatory action against the state governor on social media in order to harm the reputation of the state government and the person of the state governor, and disruption to a lawful order.
Eberendu Chimechefulem, Ebere Nwoke, Basil MBA, Ebuka Samuel, Darlington Ibekewe, Obasi Goodluck, Nwaiwu Ndubuisi, Peace Ekpendu, Steve Anisnuobi, and Ebere Nwokeobi are some of the defendants.
While the lead counsel for the defendants was Eddy Onyema, the prosecutor was E.S Ibechem.
The magistrate had taken a 15-minute break after hearing to permit her rule on the bail application.
When one of the defendants, Darlington Ibekwe, slumped while the magistrate ruled on the bail request, the drama ensued.
