Despite denials from his lawyers and associates, the details of Igboho’s trial have not been made public. It may be related to immigration.

The Nigerian has not yet filed official charges. If this is not done, the court’s decision to allow Igboho to be interrogated further could suggest he has broken Beninian laws.

Hundreds of secessionist supporters and traditional rulers flocked to the courthouse for the rescheduled hearing. At around 7 a.m., he was driven in.

Igboho sat in the courtroom for 15 hours while the prosecution and his lawyers fought over his case. Ropo, his wife, was accompanying him.

As the hearings progressed, the Court President summoned the police to maintain order and manage media and supporters.

Nigerian authorities urge Igboho people to return home. He’s accused of stockpiling weapons and threatening the government and security services.

The separatist was carrying out acts of terror and disturbing the peace under the pretence of helping other kinsmen, according to the presidency before his arrest.

Igboho was accused of making “hate speeches,” attempting to develop an arsenal, and plotting to destabilise Nigeria’s unity.

“Assault weapons are not the tools of peacemakers. Garba Shehu, President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman, said, “Regardless of who they are or where they come from, the Security Agencies should treat them all the same.”
