APC crisis: Adamu writes Tinubu, demands withdrawal of campaign list

The All Progressives Congress (APC) crisis may not be over after Senator Abdulahi Adamu, the party’s national chairman, wrote to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) list.

After a five-hour meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) on Wednesday in Abuja, the decision was made.

The letter’s draught expressed regret over the release of the Tinubu-Shettima presidential campaign council list without consulting the party’s national leadership.

The NWC admonished Tinubu to prevent the PCC from launching such solo projects and consented to collaborate with all stakeholders to lead the party to victory.

It stated that any indication of disarray within the party would undermine the campaign’s ethos and spirit and cause unwarranted alarm among the party’s devoted members and supporters across the nation.

According to the NWC, the list’s withdrawal would guarantee the leadership of the party’s respect and disposition, as well as the generous spirit of cooperation toward achieving victory alongside the NWC.

The council and Tinubu released the campaign list without consulting the party, which was a violation of the agreement made with the party leadership, which was regretted by the party leadership.

Adamu stated that they have a responsibility as party leaders to set a good example for the rest of the party, including the PCC, to uphold agreements and strictly follow the work ethos that we have all adopted.

Adamu writes Tinubu

“On behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), I present my compliments to Your Excellency and have the honour to convey to you, in truth and respect, the Committee’s opinion and position, regarding the above-mentioned subject matter, with a view to having a clear understanding about the respective roles and responsibilities of the main organs of the Party charged with the duties of conducting the Party’s business,” the letter states in part.

“Given the recent developments surrounding the alleged appointments into the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), which were made hastily by Council officials without seeking approval from the NWC, this correspondence has become necessary.

“The NWC has always had a cooperative attitude toward the campaign, motivated by the interest of the party as a whole and the lone desire of victory for our candidates, in the persons of your esteemed self and your running mate.

The opposition parties’ only desire, when all else fails, is to see the introduction of animosity, division, and disinclination in the leadership of our great party, so such a development would undoubtedly come as “Manna from Heaven” for them.

“Your Excellency will undoubtedly concur with me that we must do everything in our power to prevent this eventuality from occurring.

You will also concur that we have a responsibility as leaders to set a good example for the rest of the Party, including the PCC, by upholding agreements and rigidly adhering to the work ethos that we have all adopted.

“Only by doing this will we lay the groundwork for success and win the respect and confidence of our beloved countrymen and women.

“Without more reprimand or complaint, I hereby request Your Excellency to stop the PCC from launching projects of this kind on its own and to commit to cooperating with all parties in order to lead our party to success.

“It is enough for me to convey the overall and unanimous feeling of the NWC regarding the unfortunate and ill-timed release of the PCC list, which confused rather than pleased the members and whose withdrawal will assure the NWC of Your Excellency’s respect and attitude toward the Party as well as the gracious spirit of cooperation towards achieving victory together with the NWC.”
