At the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, weightlifter Rafiatu Lawal won Team Nigeria’s second gold medal in the women’s 59kg division on Sunday.

Rafiatu Lawal won the women’s 59 kg weightlifting competition and set a new Commonwealth Games record by lifting a combined total of 206 kg, including 110 kg in snatch and 116 kg in clean and jerk.
The Nigerian set a Commonwealth Games record by successfully lifting 90 kg on her first attempt, and she immediately took the lead in the Snatch standings.

Although she was unable to lift 94 kg on her second attempt, she attempted 95 kg on her third.
Jessica Brown of England came in second with a total lift of 197 kg, while Tali Darsigny of Canada came in third with a total lift of 196 kg.
