Church usher raped my 8-year-old daughter
Mrs Loveth Oyakhilome, a businesswoman, told the FCT High Court in Kubwa that Patrick Ekene, a 34-year-old church usher, defiled her eight-year-old daughter.
The police have charged Ekene with one count of rape.
The defendant called Oyakhilome in February 2020, explaining that he had been sleeping in the church because he had no other place to stay, according to Oyakhilome, who was led in evidence by the Prosecution Counsel, John Ijagbemi.
“The defendant pleaded with me to let him stay in my house for a short time, so I spoke with my husband, who agreed, and we put him up in one of our guest rooms.”
“He moved in March 2020, then in August he informed me that he wanted to go on a mission to be ordained as a pastor in a church in Utako, and he eventually moved out of my house.”
“I left my four children sleeping in the room and informed the defendant, who was sleeping in the parlour, that I would be a little while after attending a church sanitation exercise.”

After 30 minutes, I returned home and knocked on the door, but no one answered. When I pushed open the door, the defendant said he was in the guest room and hadn’t heard me.
“I went into the kitchen and searched for my daughter, who was hiding in a corner.”
“The defendant put something in her private parts, according to my daughter,” Oyakhilome said.
The witness claimed that she ran up to the defendant and demanded to know what he had done to her daughter, but that he denied it and swore by the Bible.
She claimed that she took her daughter to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed that she was defiled after an examination.
Justice Bello Kawu adjourned the case until February 11 for cross-examination after the testimony.
