Jubilation As Abducted Imo Catholic Priest Regains Freedom


Rev Fr Izu Marcell Onyeocha, a Catholic Priest abducted recently in Imo, has been released.

Onyeocha, who was abducted by unknown gunmen along the Ihube – Okigwe highway, was released on Monday.

Orlando Ikeokwu, a spokesman for the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the priest’s release.

According to previous reports, Onyeocha, a Philosophy lecturer at Imo State University in Owerri, was abducted after his vehicle broke down on the busy expressway late Sunday night.

According to a statement released by Orlando, one Bissong Isa Atugu, who was in the same Nissan Exterra SUV as the priest, said Fulani herdsmen allegedly abducted him after inflicting machete cuts.
