Cardinal John Onaiyekan takes a stance on APC’s Muslim-Muslim “Ticket Is A Political Decision”, Reveals Who Faithful Should Vote
Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Archbishop of Abuja Arch Diocese remarked that the Catholic church has not taken a position on the ruling party’s Muslim Muslim candidate for the 2023 presidential election.
The religious leader added that he would not support the ruling party because of the same faith ticket and that the Catholic faithful would choose their preferred candidate on an individual basis.
The same religion ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the best political choice for the party, according to Cardinal John Onaiyekan, the Emeritus Archbishop of Abuja, Ejes Gist Newspaper reports.
Who the catholic church endorsed for the 2023 presidential election?
Onaiyekan made this statement while delivering a paper with the following title during the ongoing First Synod of the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo, the capital of Osun state:
In the pursuit of a just and peaceful social order, the church serves as a catalyst for dialogue and reconciliation in our neighbourhood.
Part of his remark is as follows: “The reason is that the ticket is a political decision taken by the party on the basis that is their best approach to win the election or secure their victory in the general election in 2023.
“It does no purpose to advise them against making such a choice; all you can say is that they must bear accountability for their choice.
By God’s grace, I shall use the one voter’s card I have. I have made the decision that I will not cast a vote for the Muslim/Muslim ticket.
