The singing of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s name throughout the game served as a reminder of the club’s new status, while the Burnley fans were enraged by the shouting in support of the Russian during a minute of applause in solidarity with Ukraine.

Chelsea got off to a slow start and had to rely on Brazilian Thiago Silva to clear Wout Weghorst’s first-time shot off the line.

As the home crowd sensed that an upset from the 18th-placed side was possible, Nathan Collins headed over from a free-kick.

But, after Dwight McNeil missed a golden opportunity after Edouard Mendy failed to connect properly with a punch clear, the excitement quickly turned to frustration.

After bursting down the left, McNeil’s decision to go for a chip rather than a more direct finish was followed by some awful hesitancy inside the box.
Tuchel had a lot to work out at halftime, and judging on his team’s improved performance, he achieved just that.

Two minutes after the break, James scored his first goal since December, blasting a shot into the far, bottom corner after turning Dwight McNeil inside out.

Havertz then drew away from Connor Roberts to head home Christian Pulisic’s well-placed cross to put the visitors up 2-0.

Pulisic had the easiest of tasks scoring after Burnley defender James Tarkowski diverted a Saul Niguez cross into his path, and the German had another simple finish, this time converting a James cross from close range.

“We were aided by the initial goal. It obviously gives you a lot of confidence in these tight matches “Tuchel was quoted as saying

“Because it’s not easy to get to Turf Moor, this is a good performance overall. It was a well-executed team effort. It strengthens my belief that we’re always improving. We were deserving of the victory, and the second half was particularly impressive.”
