Until his appointment as the New DG of NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa was the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Drug Abuse.
Between 2018 and December 2020, Gen. Marwa worked assiduously as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse, PACEDA, along with others to create a blue print on how to end drug abuse in Nigeria. Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, verified the report while reacting to a media inquiry on Saturday, saying the President gave the appointment a nod. “That is real. General Marwa was accepted by the President as the new NDLEA Chairman,” he said in a text message.
A top official who craved anonymity at the anti-drug law enforcement agency said the organization’s management team was already prepared to welcome Gen. Marwa when he resumes this week. There are already high hopes of permanent changes by staff of the agency and Nigerians who have reflected on the appointment since the information leaked online Friday night, noted for its history of excellent record of success wherever it touches.
One of these is from a public analyst, Mr. Timawus Mathias, who admonished NDLEA officials on his facebook page Saturday morning to brace for shake-ups and serious work. Congratulations to General Muhammadu Buba Marwa for responding to the National Call to head the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of Nigeria. Marwa is a full rounder. Whatever mission he conducts is thoroughly accomplished. Be ready for the Marwa Shake Up! NDLEA Perfection, meeting global expectations of excellence, is his power. We’ll find a difference in the first 100 days. General’s best wishes, the pace and favour of God all the way,’ he announced, congratulating Gen. Marwa on the new national assignment.
Marwa was once a military attaché, Nigerian Embassy, Washington DC, USA, and defence attaché, United Nations, New York, as well as a former ambassador to South Africa and the Kingdoms of Lesotho and Swaziland. Highly polished, intellectually deep and pan-Nigerian.
He received a master’s degree from Harvard University in Public Administration and another master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in International Relations. In addition to his studies at the Nigerian Military School and at Kaduna, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
