Veteran actor Chief Bruno Iwuoha is dead

After a long struggle with diabetes, the movie star Bruno Iwuoha died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In a statement to Newsmen, Monalisa Chinda-Coker, Director of Communications Actors Guild of Nigeria, confirmed the report.

“On behalf of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the National President, Ejezie Emeka Rollas, expresses condolences to the immediate family, relatives, and fans.

He prays that God will console them during this difficult time.
The declaration concluded, “May the souls of all faithful departed rest in peace.”

During an interview with Brekete Family, an Abuja radio station in 2015, the veteran actor revealed his illness.

According to the talented star, he had no idea he had diabetes until he was hospitalised after a violent armed robbery assault.

“I’ve gone to so many places; inside the country, outside the country for care, until finally…,” he was quoted as saying.

Finally, the disease [diabetes] took one of my eyes (eyes). I’m just using one eye to look at you right now (eye). Glaucoma is the medical term for this condition.

“And it’s eventually impacting the other. I learned that this thing [the illness] is something that lasts a lifetime. And it has cost me my career [as an actor]. And now, if I get a script, I’ll have a hard time reading it well. And if I read it for too long, it will appear as if someone is leading me around the house or wherever I want to go because it will impact the only [eye]. So that’s my issue.”

He said at the time that he wanted to be moved to a U.S. hospital and that he needed N3.5 million to do so.

Shortly after, Emeka Morgan Oguejiofor, the CEO of Morgan Entertainment, contacted him and offered to pay for his travel to the United States as well as his medical bills.

Veteran Actor Bruno Iwuoha Biography ( All You Should Know )

The Actors Guild of Nigeria launched an appeal fund in January 2021 with the aim of providing immediate medical assistance to ailing Nollywood actors and assisting the families of deceased actors. The late actor was named as one of the appeal fund’s recipients.

Veteran Bruno Iwuoha  will be sorely missed

Prior to Nollywood, he worked for the National Fertiliser Company of Nigeria (NAFCON) in Onne, Port Harcourt, as a principal licenced contractor.

His first film appearance was in Ndubuisi Okoh’s ‘Lost Kingdom,’ which was filmed in Aba.

It was a fascinating foray into Nollywood for him. The movie’s producers needed someone who could play an elderly man. They preferred someone with natural grey hair rather than a wig.

His buddy, a certain Mr Christopher, brought him the script and a letter of invitation stating that he was needed at Wilcox Memorial School in Aba after several recommendations.

Like they say, the rest is history.

For his role in the film “Sins of the Flesh,” the late actor received the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2007.

He was a prolific actor who appeared in films such as World Apart, Magic Cap, Keeping Close, Another Bondage, Faces Of Love, and Days Of Hatred, among others. Two Bad Boys, Eagle’s Bride, Forever Yours, Jealous Lovers, My Own Share, My Portfolio, Occultic Fight, The Prince and The Princess, and Sins Of The Flesh are among the others.

Bruno Iwuoha appeared in over 509 films during his lifetime, the most recent of which was Chris Kalu’s ‘Silent Prejudice’ (2020).

His wife and six children survive the 68-year-old star.
